How to potty-train dog in new area
Q: Our 2-year-old dog spent the bulk of her life in a shelter before we adopted her. She was easily house-trained and has adapted well to our home. However, she has one strange habit: She will not relieve herself on walks and will only go in an enclosed area…. Toilet training – Dog – Recreation – Pets – Activities

Dogs Behavior

dogs behavior
Dog behavior. I have 3 dogs brother and sister and a younger female. Lived together for 15 months. ?

The sister has started to attack the smaller female and bite her, drawing blood 3 times. Nothing has changed, but why is she attacking her. They all usually get on well. All have been doctored and are treated equally. The smaller female is terrified of the other female. When the older female approaches the other her hair goes up on her back. The twins are 2 1/2 years old the other 18 months. Normally all are good matured.

I smile to myself.

You have discovered that having several dogs can be quite a handful and are not as easy to control without some understanding of the canine pack mentality.

You say the dogs are treated equally, well, that could be the problem. The two females are challenging each other for the dominant position. You need to identify which of the females is the more dominant, for which you may need professional help. Please note that unlike the human world, dominance has nothing to do with aggression. Once you have identified the dominant female, that one ALWAYS gets fed first, gets treats first, gets groomed first.

This will do two things, it will show assertion to all the dogs that you are the pack leader. And two, the higher status female will have her position in the pack reinforced by your beviour.

But, that said, I still think you are in need of professional help.

German Shepherd Puppy Training Tips

Any tips on what to do with my puppy when I’m at school and need help with training?

Okay my parents bought me a 3 month old german shepherd mix puppy 2 days ago but then they started talking about how I need to take more responsibility and stuff but then they laid it on me.What to do with the dog when I’m at school it will be alone for 8 hours from 7:00 through 2:00.Now I have know idea what to do.And almost everytime I take him out he dosen’t do his business.Instead as soon as I take him in he does.Any tips on training would be very helpful.

Buy a kennel for him and make him sleep in it. Dogs will not use the bathroom where they sleep, so you can keep him there while you are at school. Then, take him out. He should have to go then. If not, take him back into the kennel and repeat the process until he goes. Let him out to play after he uses the bathroom, and praise him when he goes. Then, after about two hours or so, take him back out. Then back to the kennel. Basically, don’t let him wander the house before he’s gone to the bathroom. Keep him in the kennel until he goes.

Good luck!
