Training Beagle Dog

Training any beagle dog can be discouraging thing to do. You must be persistent, rigid and show that you are caring. Also, each dog is different from the next. And you will soon find that beagles can be very discouraging. They are known for their ability to track rather than their ability to listen. On most lists, the beagle ranks lowest among obedience. Therefore, you should research and execute every training tip out there
Every beagle owner will agree that taking the dog for a walk is one of the most frustrating events. The beagle is driving by its nose and will constantly pull and tug as each new smell is discovered. There are a couple of ways that you can make the walk more enjoyable for you and the beagle. First, get a leash that is at least six feet long. I recommend a retractable one. The length will give the beagle a radius to explore will you leisurely walk. Second, if you find the beagle pulling, then quickly change direction. This lets the dog know that you decide the direction and the pace.
Training doesn’t just stop with walking them on the leash. Another thing you have to do is teach them barking control. I know in most circumstances they are protecting the house but it does get out of hand every time the dog lets out a loud howl. Then you find out it was only someone walking by. One-way to train them to stop barking is to encourage them to do it.
I know this sounds strange but by teaching your dog to speak you can teach it to shush. Try getting your beagle to bark at you. While they are doing it, ask them to speak and when they bark give them a treat. Keep doing this and when you want them to stop simply turn your back. When they stop, turn back and say shush. After a few days of practice, the beagle will understand the two commands.
Another beagle training tip would be to control their begging. Any beagle owner knows that these dogs are where the food is and they are usually staring at some sucker with those puppy dog eyes. While it may seem cute, this is a common problem with beagle dog training. The main thing you have to do is remove the beagle from the scene. Begin by placing your beagle inside the crate right before you eat. This will stop them from being consumed with the aromas coming from the kitchen. And if they are in the room, make sure you have dedicated a spot to the dog that is away from the food.
It is important to teach the basic but it is also fun to teach a few tricks. Try using the beagle’s nose to your advantage. Getting your beagle to shake is easy and can be done in twenty minutes. Start out with a treat closed in your fist. Let the beagle sniff and lick your hand until they become irritated and eventually claw at it. Give them the treat once they do that and then do it again. Each time, the dog will claw sooner. Eventually, you can remove the treat and the beagle will shake regularly.
Beagle dog training can be fun and challenging at the same time. Remember patience and consistency are the keys to training.
