German Shepherd advice?

We are looking to add another dog in our lives. I've always been attracted by GSD and has conducted research on them. I had some Malinois dogs retreated to the police. I am looking for any useful information we could use positive during training. I have cats and any information on this part would also be helpful. We are not thinking about getting a little puppy. It will be a year or so. Please most informative comment.
