Dog Whining

How do you stop a dog whining?

Whenever a dog goes down the street our mutt starts whining and goes on for ages! He also does this whenever an animal of any kind is on the TV. We’ve tried everything to stop him – shouting smacking, distracting him, ignoring him, but nothing works. Sometimes this goes on for about 20 minutes and it’s driving me mad!! Any help would be really appreciated.

He’s really not very god with other dogs – he gets either a bit aggressive or gets scared! We got him from the pound and he is very clingy with us and very jealous, so I don’t know how he would react to another dog in the house. He gets PLENTY of love from us (maybe a bit spoilt!!!)

My dog used to cry a lot but what really works to shut her up, is we whine right back at her, really high pitched than she gets all confused, and puts her ears up. This is the only thing that works for her. hope it helps.
