Bad Dog Behavior
A few years ago, I taught courses in an animal shelter in New Bedford, MA.
Classes went well until night, when a new student joins class. The dog was a beautiful shepherd mix with a nice temperament. When I went to the dog moves the tail and the smile of your eyes. I thought, "What a good dog."
Then something strange product.
The dog would not do a single command to the owner. She said her name, give orders and dog would be completely ignored.
I thought it was strange and I did, took the lead.
Within seconds, I did sit, down and stay. I handed the leash and asked to give your dog sitting order. She said that the order in Portuguese, which is not surprising because there is a large population Portuguese in the region and many people train their dogs in that language.
Your dog completely ignored. I asked to give your dog the order to sit down again but this time I heard the order given in German.
I stopped and asked why the order was given in Portuguese and then switched to German.
His answer surprised me …
She said she wanted her dog to learn commands in Portuguese, German and English.
Without words, I asked Why?
She said she had done with his last dog and I wanted to do the same with him.
At this point, she was angry with his dog and started very well with him. I tried to explain that she must choose a language and stick with it, your dog will learn much faster and be fair to the dog.
She was angry with me and I had to ask her to leave. I felt for the dog I saw, but … There is a good ending to this story.
The owner of dog to the shelter about a month later.
The dog showed signs assault but had not disappeared entirely from the dark side.
Within weeks, turned and was taken to a good family.
One of the most important parts of training is consistency, consistency with the training are more easier for the dog to learn.
